The Foreign Affairs Ministry has lodged a strong protest with the Indian high Commission for the harassment of a Pakistani Counsellor based in India, a statement by the Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Wednesday.

The statement said that Indian High Commission Counsellor Gitish Sarma was summoned by the ministry on October 31 to ledge "a strong protest" over harassment of Counsellor Moazzam Khan by Indian intelligence agents in R.K. Puram Sunday market in Delhi on October 30.

The report said that a police party on duty at market first alleged that Nadeem, the domestic help of the Counsellor, was carrying counterfeit Indian currency.

However, under public pressure, the police retracted the allegation. Counsellor Moazzam Khan was pushed and insulted by the Indian police when he reached the scene to rescue his servant.

Nadeem was taken to a police station from where he was freed after sometime.

The Indian Deputy High Commissioner called Director General (SA) and assured that he would take up this matter with the authorities in Delhi.
